Fabulous job at the Christmas concert.  Our 7/8's set the tone for this school and I'm so impressed with everyone's dedication to this performance.  Nicely done Jack Mack students!!!!

Hello everyone.  Christmas Concert tomorrow!!!  The two performances are at 1:15 pm and 7:00 pm.  Students are required to be back at the school and in their classrooms by 6:30 pm.

We are still in desperate need of a volunteer to record the performance for us.  This could be done in either the afternoon or the evening performance.  We would also like for that someone to download the recording to a DVD.  If you are able to help out in this way, please email me at angela.scott@rbe.sk.ca or call the school at your earliest convenience.  Thank you in advance!!!

Happy Friday everyone.  I can't believe how quickly Christmas is coming.  We have a lot coming up this next week.

1. Elf Cover Letter for ELA - assigned today and due one week from today.  In order to complete this assignment, you will need to learn your elf name.  Copy and paste the following URL to an elf name generator:  http://christmas.namegeneratorfun.com/

2. Also due in ELA - finish reading The Outsiders for Monday.  We will have quizzes on the last four chapters on Monday, and the final Exam for the book will be on Thursday morning.  Thursday, Dec. 17th, will be Outsider's Day.  Come dressed as your favourite Outsiders character.  We will watching the movie on Thursday afternoon.

3. Our Christmas concert is happening on Tuesday, Dec. 15th.  Our Dress rehearsal is happening Tuesday morning.  The first performance is at 1:00 pm and the second performance is at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are not needed for the 1:00 pm show.

4.  We are making Gingerbread Houses the morning of Wednesday, December 16th.  Please see the note sent home earlier this week as to what is needed for this activity.

5.  Secret Santa runs all next week.  Please bring one small gift each day for the person who's name you have drawn.  The details of each gift are also included on the note sent home earlier this week, but just in case you lost it . . .

I'm Back!!!!!

Good morning everyone.  I'm very pleased to be back on online.  I have no idea why my blog kicked me out for awhile, or why it decided to suddenly let me back in, but here we are.  Due to my very extended absence, this is going to be a very long post.  First thing's first - the ever important Health Education letter:

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Beginning Monday, November 30^th, our next unit of study in the Health class will be the Sex Education unit.  The purpose of this unit is to equip students with the information they need to make healthy life decisions and to support others to do the same.  I am hoping to cover most of the curriculum before we break for Christmas holidays so the study of sexual knowledge, attitudes and healthy decision making will be brief but helpful.  The curriculum outcomes regarding this study are as follows:

Assess the social, cultural, and environmental influences on and supports for sexual health knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, and decisions. 

Appraise the role of “support” in making healthy decisions related to family roles and responsibilities, non-curable infections/diseases, violence and abuse, body image, sustainability, and sexual health. 

Analyze the health opportunities and challenges, and establish “support others” personal goal statements, related to family roles and responsibilities, non-curable infections/diseases, violence and abuse, body image, sustainability, and sexual health. 

As part of this unit, I will be working alongside a parent of the school, who is also a health care professional.  Together, we plan to show a detailed power point presentation, depicting actual photos of the effects of several sexually transmitted infections.  The photos in this slide show are of infected male and female genitalia.  I understand that not everyone will feel comfortable allowing their child to see these photos and I respect that opinion.  If you are not comfortable allowing your child to see this power point, or if your child feels uncomfortable watching, they will be excused from the class.  An alternate assignment will then be sent home for your child to complete with you, in order to meet the curriculum requirements. This presentation will take place on Thursday, December 10, 2015.

Dear Grade 8 Students and Parents/Guardians:

            Thanks to the efforts of one of our fabulous parents, all grade 8 students have the opportunity to order a hooded, pull-over sweatshirt to commemorate their final year at Jack MacKenzie School.  The look/layout of the sweatshirt will be as follows:

1.       The colour is black with the Jack MacKenzie logo on the front;

2.       The logo and lettering will be a combination of silk screening and embroidery;

3.       Student’s name and the number 16 (for 2016) will be on the back;

Sweaters cost $48.00 plus tax for a total of $50.40.  If interested, please completely fill in the order form below and submit with payment to homeroom teachers.  All orders need to be submitted by Tuesday, December 8, 2015.  A sizing kit has been available in the hallway since Friday, November 27^th.  Please confirm your appropriate size.
