Good afternoon everyone.  Only four more school  days left until Christmas. Tomorrow is Christmas Hamper Delivery Day.  Most of you have already brought your Christmas Hamper item but if you committed to donating a perishable food item, please have it here for the start of the day tomorrow.  The SLC will be gathering the hampers in the morning to sort, shop and deliver in the afternoon.

The Christmas Concert is happening this Thursday with a full dress rehearsal on Wednesday.  Please have all lines memorized, costumes organized and at school and be here - please - we need you!!!

Remember to bring your gifts for your secret Santa person.  People - this is supposed to be a secret - don't sign your name!!!!!!!!!  Don't leave your secret Santa person without a gift as that is disappointing.

Have a great night everyone and I'll see you tomorrow.

Hello everyone and Happy November.

As much as I hate to state the obvious, it is getting colder outside and everyone is expected to be outdoors for all recess.  Please come dressed for the weather.

Keep an eye on the important dates for November.   We have a very busy month coming up.  Also, remember to pay attention to the homework updates.  Telling me, "I didn't know" doesn't work at all.  You do know . . . I'm reminding you right here!!!!

One more thing . . . if you bring Halloween candy to school remember two very important details:  1. Keep it nut free.  2.  Share with me!!!!

When:  Friday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. (the same day as our Hallowe’en dance)
Where:  Open area by the food court at Victoria Square Mall, 2223 Victoria Avenue East

A note from the Jack Mack
Milk Program
Dear families,
We would like to thank you for supporting this great school fundraiser over the year and hope that the changes we’ve made to purchasing made it easier for your son/daughter to enjoy milk each day!
The milk program will run up to Friday, June 16th. There will NOT be milk for the last two weeks of school.
Cash and Online purchases can be made up to Thursday, June 8th, for the remainder of the year. The School Cash Online milk account will be closed on Friday, June 9th.
Any milk credits remaining on June 16th will be carried forward to the 2017-2018 school year. Keep your milk cards over the summer and bring them back in the new school year. A record will not be kept at school. Cash/online refunds will not be given; therefore, remaining credits for students not returning to Jack MacKenzie next year will be considered a donation to the school. Thank you for your understanding.
Have a wonderful end to the school year! Milk will start up again for the 2nd week of school in September.
Questions, concerns, &/or feedback can be directed to Mrs. Jaime Riou at jaime.riou@rbe.sk.ca .

Hello and Happy Monday.  This is just a quick update to remind Grade 7's that we have canoeing tomorrow afternoon and Thursday afternoon.  Come prepared with clothing that could possiby get dirty/mildly wet.  We do not have any desire to tip the canoes as we will be at Wascana Lake, but we need to be prepared just in case.  This is for all the students in my Math class.

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Hello everyone.  I hope you are enjoying your afternoon.  We are in need of creativity for the next two days of school.

Also, Friday, May 5th, we are having a Hawaiian Dance.  Come dressed like your ready to enjoy the sun (no bathing suits of course).

See you tomorrow.

Tuesday, February 14, 2017

Happy Valentine's Day.  The February break is almost here . . . just four more sleeps!!!

At the end of last week, a note was sent home regarding the movie we plan to watch on Friday.  Students who plan to watch Schindler's List, need to return the signed note from a parent or guardian, indicating consent to see this movie.  The alternative to watching Schindler's List is another movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.  This is based on the novel by the same title; one of the novels that was studied in the literacy groups that we are now just finishing with.  This movie is rated PG 13 and while it still explores the very upsetting topic of the Holocaust, it is considered less intense.  If this is your movie of choice, please just indicate so on the note or by email.

Have a fabulous Day.

Thursday, February 9, 2017

?
Good afternoon everyone.  Tomorrow is another PD day so please do not pull yourself out of bed early unnecessarily.  I hate to see a good sleep in wasted.  Keep your eyes on the homework updates in the column to the right as well as the "Important Dates For February" list.

Below is a copy of the note that went home today.  Please be sure to have a parent/guardian indicate whether or not you have permission to see the movie and return it ASAP.

Have a fabulous long weekend.

 February 9, 2017,

Dear Parents:

As we complete our holocaust unit in E.L.A., we would like to show the movie “Schindler’s List”. The movie fits nicely as a culminating activity to the Literature Circles we have studied.  We will be watching the movie Friday, February 17th, 2017.

Schindlers List   14-A
Arguably Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece, this gripping adaptation of Thomas Keneally’s novel tells a story of Oscar Schindler (Neeson), a German industrialist who saved upward of 1,100 Jews from the Nazi death camps by employing them in his factory during the war. This film won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1993.

The movie has some nudity, which would be fast-forwarded.  There are some graphic scenes of WWII and life in concentration camps.

The students must bring this form back with a parent signature giving approval to watch this movie.  If for any reason you would not want to let your son/daughter watch this movie, simply state this below.  An alternate activity will be provided for students not watching the movie.  If you have any questions/concerns, feel free to call the school at 306-791-8585.

Sincerely,

Kevin Yeske
Kelley Reoch
Angela Scott
Kyle DuMont

I will/will not allow my son/daughter to watch “Schindler’s List”

Good afternoon everyone.

Due to this extremely cold weather, tomorrow's ski/snowboard trip to Mission Ridge has been postponed to March 21st.  I guess the weather prediction is that it will not warm up enough to be outside until 4:00 pm.  Therefore, tomorrow will proceed as a typical day 4.

Have a great evening and stay warm!!!!

Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Good afternoon.

Please keep an eye on the homework updates and important dates to remember.  We have a few extra things going on in the next little while.

The rest of this week has lots to look out for.  We are skating tomorrow afternoon so please come prepared for that.  Also happening tomorrow - report cards!!!!  I know you missed receiving your report card in November and they are finally here.  You're welcome!!!

On Thursday we are having "Dress as Your Favourite Book Character Day".  I'd rather not see any Captain Underpants if you don't mind, but please be creative.

All ski/snowboard trip forms and payments are due on Friday at the very latest.  Please pay online and indicate our receipt number on the permission slip.

We are meeting for literacy groups tomorrow so please have your ELA homework finished and ready to go.

See you tomorrow.

Sunday, January 29, 2017

Hello everyone.

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend.  We are already at the end of January and there are several important dates coming up.  Please keep your eye on the "Important Dates for February" column so you don't miss anything.

We are into our third week of the literacy groups.  We will be meeting with our reading groups on Wednesday morning so please be prepared for that.  Also, because of our slightly altered schedule last week, and slightly altered schedule this coming week, we will be altering our schedule even further.  The class switches (Health, Science, Social Studies, Phys. Ed) that you normally have on Day One, will be held on Day Two and vice versa.  The altered plan will continue for the rest of the week.  This is needed to keep all four homerooms at the same lesson in all subject areas.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and I will see everyone on Monday.

Friday, January 20, 2017

Hello everyone.

Remember to bring back your response to the Intent to Ski letter.  We need to know by Monday who is planning on coming with us to Mission Ridge.

Have a great weekend.

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

Happy New Year everyone.  I guess I'm a few days late with the first blog post of the new year but I'm happy to see everyone back after that much-needed holiday.

We have already jumped into our Practical and Applied Arts unit and all classes seem to be running smoothly. We will switch PAA groups on Thursday, January 12th.  Any grade sevens who have not yet paid the $20 for the PAA course, please do so ASAP.  We have a lot of materials we need to purchase to run these programs.

Today we started our literacy groups.  You should all have your assigned novel and roll for this week.  Tomorrow is a reading class but it would be a good idea to get started on that reading at home.  Remember, it's very important to the whole group that you stay on top of all reading and assigned rolls each week.

Tomorrow is Sports Wear/Jersey Day.  Come dressed in your favourite team's jersey or sports clothes but . . . please make sure it's washed first.  We want to SEE the sport - not SMELL it!!! :)

That is all for now.  Try to stay warm and enjoy the rest of your day.
