Happy Friday everyone.

Remember to bring your gingerbread house making supplies to school on Monday.  We will be using the afternoon for this project.  Also, remember to bring your Secret Santa gifts.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

Hello everyone.

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped out with costumes for our Christmas concert.  We still have need of a Penguins jersey or two so if you have one, can we please borrow it for the performances?

Tomorrow morning is the dress rehearsal for the concert.  We will begin right after attendance/announcements so please be at school and on time.  Our first concert is tomorrow afternoon, starting at 1:15.  This is an actual concert and we need everyone in costume.  All grade 7/8's who do not have specific costumes need to be in neutral coloured clothing; no bright colours or logos please.  You are supposed to look like old time villagers so plain brown, beige, or grey is best.

The evening concert starts at 7:00 pm.  Students should be at school, in their classrooms by 6:30 pm.  Please bring something quiet to occupy your time in the classroom as there will be no running around between classes.  Cell phones will not be allowed.

Secret Santa starts on Friday.  Make sure to have your first gift here at school for your person on that day.  Remember, it's a secret - don't spoil it for anyone.  Also, gingerbread houses are being made on Monday.  Please see the following letter to remind you of what you need.

December News
Grade 7/8

The milk container can be brought to school anytime.
*Purchasing a Gingerbread House making kit is also an option if you should so choose.

Can You Keep a Secret?
From December 15th to the 21st, our grade 7/8 classes will be participating in Secret Santa’s.
Students who wish to participate in this activity should follow the guidelines below.

See you tomorrow!

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Hello everyone.  I hope everyone is enjoying their evening.  I apologize for falling behind in updating the blog lately.  As you can see, there are several assignments listed in the Homework Updates to stay on top of.

A few students have still not turned in their mosaic face and we are missing you at the front of the classroom.  Please complete this assignment right away so that we can add you to the gallery.

If you ordered special lunch, tomorrow is the day!!!

Last but not least . . . please replenish your school supplies if needed.  Everyone should be coming to school with their own pencils, pens, rulers, erasers, etc.  Mrs. Scott is not your personal school supply provider.  Thanks for taking care of this.

Have a fabulous day and get your homework done!

Friday, September 30, 2016

The first month of school is already over!  That was fast.  Please take a  moment to look at the Important Dates for October.  There are several and I don't want anyone to miss anything.

Our QSP magazine drive is almost finished.  This is your last weekend to get those magazine orders in and earn some foxes or Dairy Queen gift cards.  We will be having the windup assembly on Monday at 3:00 pm.  Let's finish strong!

There are a few students who have already fallen behind in Health and/or ELA.  Please use this weekend of very little homework to catch up on those assignments.  If your memory needs a refresh, I'm looking for the Time Capsule Writing Assignment, the questions to "The Crags Beneath Malpelo Island", and the Personal Standards Collage.  Let's get caught up before new assignments get handed out and overwhelm us.

Thanks for a fabulous beginning to the school year.  September was great!

Thursday, September 8, 2016

Hello everyone and thanks for checking in.  I've been working at making this blog a little easier to navigate.

On the right hand side you will notice that there are two important sections:  Homework Updates and Important Dates to Remember for September.  I will regularly be adding to the Homework Updates and every month, I will list the important dates for that month.  Please keep your eye on these two sections.

If you have been checking regularly, you may already notice a change in one of the dates.  I had originally understood that the Grade 7 canoeing would happen on September 12th.  That date has been changed to Tuesday, the 13th.  All students will need to bring their bathing suit, towel and a quarter for the locker.  Many students have already returned their permission slips. If you have not already done so, please have that returned to me by tomorrow and remember to pay the $4.50 online.

I am also still waiting for a few Lunch Room Registrations and Media Release Forms.  Even if you do not plan to ever stay for lunch, please return the pink form and just indicate on there that you are not registering for the lunch room.  Thanks so much for your help with this.

That's all for now.  Have a fabulous Thursday and remember to wear your green tomorrow.

Friday, September 2, 2016

Good afternoon.  I'm sure many of you are feeling as annoyed with the alarm clock as I am.  The good news is you're about to have three days off.  We have a few things to be aware of already:

Grade 7's - canoeing forms are going home today.  Please pay online and return the completed form on Tuesday.  Our first lesson is on September 12th, so this needs to be taken care of immediately;
Track and Field - Track day is on September 21st.  Payment for the bus needs to be made online and the signed permission slips need to be returned no later than September 16th.  A copy of this letter is below;
Milk - once again, students are able to purchase milk for their lunches.  This is another thing that needs to be paid for online with the School Payment System.  Forms for this are also going home today.
Art - we are starting an art project next week that requires preparation beforehand.  Please work on collecting various magazines and pictures that represent you and the various things you are interested in.  I would like have these in the class on Tuesday so that we are prepared for Art.

Thanks for a fabulous start to the school year.  Below I have attached the letter regarding Track and Field:

I hope today is treating you well.  We are quickly approaching the end of the year and there is SO MUCH TO DO!!!!

Dear Parents/Guardians of Grade 7 students:

This is a friendly reminder that we need your help to ensure that our Grade Eight Farewell is a success.  As we have done in previous years, the grade seven students and their parents, provide the desserts/dainties and the service for the reception following the farewell ceremony.  This is happening on Tuesday, June 14th.  Many of you have already responded to our original newsletter.  Megan Hunt, Barb Wagner, Linda Forster, Candice Oremba, Katherine Zimmer, Amy Hu and Rae-lyn Snyder, Amy Hu, Karla Sillinger and Nancy Hasapis have all volunteered to take the lead role for organizing the reception on the morning and the evening of the reception.  Their email addresses are:

Megan Hunt
Barb Wagner
Linda Forster
Candice Oremba
Katherine Zimmer
Rae-lyn Snyder
Amy Hu
Karla Sillinger
Nancy Hasapis

The attached list shows what contributions are being provided from each family.
We do not yet have a commitment to provide dainties/squares from all of our grade seven students.  Remember, next year this event will be for you and at that time you will be taken care of by the grade seven class of next year.  All food items need to be brought to the staff room on the morning of June 14th and they must be entirely nut-free.  Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Kelley Reoch, Kyle DuMont, Kevin Yeske, Angela Scott

Speeches are almost done, with the exception of one more student!  Everyone did a fabulous job.  Figuring out our top boy and top girl from the class will be a very difficult job.  I am very impressed with the effort that everyone put into this project.

Report Cards are going home today.  Conference appointment times are included in the report card envelope.  Please sign and return the envelope so that we have them for the June report cards.

Hello Families!

This is a special note to highlight some important events that are happening at Jack MacKenzie next Wednesday, March 2, which will be our school’s Day of Pink.

-Please dress in Pink!  We are hoping to have our student population in pink or in the Red Cross Day of pink t-shirts that day.
-In the morning, there will be some special anti-bullying activities run by our school Student Leadership Committee.
-In the afternoon, we will be pleased to welcome the members of the Red Cross and Saskatchewan Roughrider Respect Ed Team, who will be sharing a message of anti-bullying.  It is because of the availability of this presentation that we have decided to make March 2 the Jack MacKenzie Day of Pink.

-In the evening, we are so pleased to host our Parent Seminar.  This is an event for YOU, the parents, to learn how you can support your children, in a variety of different ways.  There will be handouts and give-aways in some sessions – please feel free to come to part or all of this evening!
